Projects

Projects come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types.
And, typically we serve clients developing facilities with
one of the following general end uses: Commercial and
Industrial; Institutional; Residential; Municipal; and/or
Recreational. About half of our work includes a
combination of Civil Engineering and Surveying.
However, we do provide Land Surveying and
Topographic Survey/Mapping as a separate service
as needed.

Recreation Projects

Athletic Fields and Campus Planning: Several school districts have contracted with Avery to survey and map over 300-acres of land, provide boundary surveys, and perform survey stakeout during construction for athletic facilities such as the track and stadium at Brighton High School. Churchville-Chili benefited from our survey staff’s ability to capture and map large amounts of survey data to prepare basemapping needed to plan several campus improvements. Other Districts include: LeRoy, Gates-Chili, Hilton, Honeoye Falls-Lima, and Rush-Henrietta.

Wellington, Chili: A Healthy Lifestyle Subdivision: There are basic subdivisions with few amenities, and then there are those like Wellington, where the developer appreciates the marketability of building communities that incorporate greenspace and trails into the plan. Avery has worked on multiple teams, with Landscape Architects, to design several such neighborhoods with trails, wooded areas, and open space for recreation. At Wellington, the 8 phases of construction for 230- lots, were developed with a series of water features and trails.

Gravel Ponds Recreation Center, Wheatland: Decades of gravel mining left the Miller family of Wheatland with a number of large ponds located in a low area amidst the hills in the farming community of Wheatland. Avery was hired to transform the stripped landscape around the ponds into what is now a very popular campground and recreation center with over 200 campsites. In addition to public water service and sanitary waste disposal systems, Avery designed the roadway system, bathhouse, sandy beaches and other park amenities.

Mill Creek Golf Course, Riga and Wheatland: Over 400 acres of farmland in Riga and Wheatland has been transformed into a  links-style championship golf club with one of the highest peaks in Monroe County, overlooking downtown Rochester. Avery provided boundary survey and mapping for the original master plan and subsequently provided several topo surveys needed to supplement the original aerial photogrammetric survey. The new clubhouse site and guest parking lot were designed by Avery, including a new MCDOH-approved “community well.”

Nature Preserves, Various Locations: At times, particularly beautiful and/or rare land is selected for preservation, and organizations such as the Genesee Land Trust, the Nature Conservancy, and Private Agencies hire Avery Engineering to provide surveying services to combine large tracts of land and design access improvements so that the public can enjoy the natural features. Recent projects include:
1000-Acre Swamp Boardwalk Nature Trail, Penfield (at right)
  • RG&E Property 12, Chili
  • Oak Openings, Rush
  • Reed Road Bird Sanctuary, Chili
  • Ganargua Meadows, Macedon
